Depression Sign Symptom – Recognising the Difference Between Sadness and Depression

Despite the fact that it is a tremendous problem in this society, when it comes to depression, many people do not know the signs and symptoms. Each day, more and more people suffer from this problem, and yet, oft-times it goes ignored.

When it comes to depression, there are signs and symptoms that should be watched for -- and if they are found, they should be addressed.

1. Always feeling sad or anxious.

As a depression sign or symptom, this is a good indicator that something is wrong. We all feel sad or anxious, of course. It's part of being human. But when these feelings do not go away, it's possible that depression might be the underlying cause.

2. Feeling hopeless or pessimistic.

When it comes to finding a depression sign or symptom, this is another one that stands out. As with the previous example, we know that all of us have these feelings from time to time but when they become a part of our everyday lives, it could mean that depression is at work.

3. A loss of interest in pleasure or hobbies.

A loss of interest in hobbies or sex or doing things that once gave pleasure is another depression sign or symptom. When something that a person once enjoyed doing no longer gives them pleasure, there is a good chance that depression is involved.

4. Decreased energy and always being tired.

This is another depression sign or symptom that cannot be overlooked. Everyone goes through a period when they are tired and out of energy, but if this remains as a part of an individual's everyday routine, depression needs to be investigated as a possible cause.

5. Physical symptoms that do not go away.

This particular depression sign or symptom is one that many people fail to recognize. If they develop headaches or muscle and back problems, they assume that it is from some sort of physical manifestation, without realizing that it could be connected with depression.

Depression is a serious problem and it is important that a person recognize the depression signs and symptoms. With all of the pressures that are at work in today's society, more and more people are discovering that they are suffering from depression.

The good news, however, is that there are more and more treatments available. When a person suspects they are suffering from depression, by identifying some of the depression signs and symptoms, they can seek help in literally dozens of avenues. It is no longer an illness that needs to be dealt with silently.

There is help available for those who exhibit depression signs and symptoms.
